New Bretton Woods
Meeting
in Milan, Italy

Over 100 people, among them 70-80 students, showed up January 15, 2001 at a conference of the Movimento Solidarieta in the Catholic University in Milan.

The subject of the conference was “Debt relief and a New Bretton Woods -- an act of justice in the fight for a new international financial system”

Among the speakers was Sen. Patrizia Toia, minister responsible for the relations to the parliament. Parliamentarian Bianchi, a leader on this issue in the Italian parliament, could not attend, but sent a political companion, who read his prepared speech. The friend is the head of the Catholic Labor Movement (ACLI) in Milan. Two professors spoke: Prof. Mori, who worked with the Italian Bishops' Conference on the subject of debt relief for Zambia and Guinea; and Prof. Campiglio, economist from the Catholic University.
