Helga Zepp LaRouche
Classical Education Vs. Clash of Civilizations

March 2002

Helga Zepp LaRouche, international President of the Schiller Institute, was the guest speaker at the 6th  International Schiller Talks, an annual symposium of the Austrian Institute New Impulses Through the Arts and Pedagogy, chaired by theater director Peter Wolsdorff.

The event, held March 18-19, 2002, at Perchtoldsdorf, near Vienna, was co-sponosred by the University of Vienna and the Austrian Government, and was also attended by representatives of UNESCO. The theme this year was, whether classical education was still necessary, or whether it should be abandoned in favor or modernist concepts of education(!)

In her presentation, Mrs. Zepp-LaRouche came out in strong defense of classical culture. She said that it is important to make people familiar with the thoughts and writings of the great authors and philosophers of classical culture, especially of the18th and early 19th centuries.

Having access to these classical humanist concepts is crucial for people to create an antidote against the advance of ideologies in favor of the clash of civilizations.

Guatemalan Group Supports Helga Zepp LaRouche's
Appeal for Dialogue of Cultures
March 2002

The General Assembly of the Guatemalan Association of Cultural Centers, at its national conference on March 3, endorsed Helga Zepp LaRouche's call for a Dialogue of Culture (see article in Indepth). Mrs.Zepp LaRouche is the founder of the Schiller Institute, and wife of renowned U.S. economist, statesman and 2004 Presidential candidate Lyndon H. LaRouche., Jr.

The Guatemalan statement says:

"Considering that since the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, the world has moved dangerously toward the possibility of war, whose escalation based on the concept of a clash of civilizations--which concept denies the possibility that civilizations can find points of convergence around universal principles--is being fanned by the world press; and

Considering that the Schiller Institute, whose main offices are in Germany, and its president Helga Zepp [LaRouche] have promoted a project for a dialogue of civilizations worldwide;

"Therefore, this assembly, which represents a love of peace not only for our country beaten down by intransigence, discrimination, and racism, declares itself in favor of all those initiatives--national and foreign--which come out for world peace, for which reason it not only embraces the initiative of the aforementioned Schiller Institute, but calls on that Institute to take our association into account, given that it is made up of more than 130 cultural centers throughout the national territory...."
